Delete Ghost printers on Windows 2012

We had a problem with publishing printers via group policy. When this printer policy is linked on a server OU wih authenticated users as security filtering you may have a issue with ghost printers.

a lot of printers will be created by the computer account:


You can solve this issue by deleting a registry key:

right mouse click on the printer, go to the tab Hardware and click properties


Go to events



by information you see a {unique number} is this case: {EB8F025C-424B-4764-A841-43E63640E2F7}


Make a registry backup (or snapshot of the machine) and search in de registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\Client Side Rendering Print Provider\Servers\”servername”\printers

When you found the key, delete the key


Restart the print spooler, after the restart the printer will be grey-out. You can delete it permanently
